BeneFit Cosmetics The POREfessional

Friday 05 September 2014

I’d admit I was drawn in by Benefit’s retro packaging because I’m a sucker for the look but I gradually became a real fan of the brand because their products do work. So when I’m in need of a reliable (and cheap) face primer, I look no further than POREfessional. I have been told by friends that the primer is addictive but I underestimated its power. I wear make-up a lot and for an extended period of time (Duh, the lady who writes beauty reviews) so I don’t always have time for touch-ups. I wanna get a good bang for my baht and make-up that will last from dusk to dawn. This primer delivers just that and more. My make-up stayed put the whole day and night and colors do not tend to fade. On top of that, once you apply this baby, your skin becomes a smooth, silky canvas for whatever you paint on your face. It will not make you completely poreless (or maybe it’s just my pot hole of pores that can’t be concealed) but your skin will look even and make-up application will be made super easy. Highly recommended for first-timers because it is just that easy to use. I got mine with the “How to Look the Best at Everything” set and never looked back.

Josie Maran 100 percent Pure Argan Oil

Monday 02 June 2014

So one of the side effects of being on the pills, especially ones designed to combat acne, is Sahara-level dry skin. I love how my skin is no longer oil-slicked and breakouts are a thing of the past but obviously there’s a catch. I begin to have dry patches and flaky skin and nothing, not even the highest-rated face mask or the world’s most iconic serum can rescue my skin. That is until I read up on a new skincare trend where bloggers mix their night time moisturizer and a face oil to up the hydration factor. The idea makes sense to me because by then I was on the verge on slathering vegetable oil on my face any way. I started off with Caudalie Divine Oil but soon realized it was too heavy for my face. I heard many wonderful reviews about Josie Maran products and decided to give it a go. As the product was not available in Thailand (it is now), I had to jump through some hoops to get my paws on this and I have never been happier. I mix two drops of this oil with my Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief and apply day and night. Miraculously, my skin was never parched since! It is the perfect way to add moisture to my skin without leaving it greasy and I never looked back. I carry the smallest size with me during my trips abroad and no matter how harsh the weather is, my skin can bounce back, no problem. I also love how it is formulated without a lot of chemicals as I already used so many products with heavy stuff, I need to give my skin a little breather. Lightweight, hydrating and non comedogenic, it is the glow-getter and skin enhancer, all in just 2 drops.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette

Thursday 10 April 2014

The ultra-luxe palette got me hooked the first time I laid eyes on it. Not only did I imagine the glamorous packaging will look amazing on my dressing table, I was also encapsulated by the mystery of what the product actually is. On its official website, the palette contains a “groundbreaking collection of finishing powders that capture, diffuse, and soften the way light reflects on skin.” After a rough search on youtube for tutorials on these babies, I still am mostly in the blind about what they are. I took a risk and bought this rather expensive ‘finishing powder’ based on rave reviews other bloggers and users online who may be just as confounded as I am (?!). And that was the best decision I made. The finishing powders come in Incandescent Light, a shade exclusive to this palette, and two existing shades, Dim Light and Radiant Light. I found Radiant Light compliments my complexion the most. I use it on my cheeks as blush and bronzer. It creates a perfect healthy glow and contours my face in a way that is flattering and subtle. I have nothing but praise for this palette and am getting ready for a re-purchase next time my friends are flying to the US (this product is not on sale in Thailand, but boy, do I try).
